Genoveva : Trauerspiel in fünf Aufzügen, 1834, ca. 1879-1887.

Materials related to rehearsal and performance, including a published copy (Hamburg: Hoffmann und Campe, 1834), which has been annotated as a prompt-book; a handwritten scenario; and 10 handwritten role books, for the following parts: Sigfried, Genoveva, Golo, Emma, Rischa, Drago, Guntram, Dietrich, Eudo, and Reno. (The play has a few additional characters that may have been omitted in performance.) The published copy is labeled as the property of Theodor Bloch, who was active in German-language theater in Philadelphia, first as an actor and later as a prompter, from the early 1870s until at least the mid 1890s, and who also ran a theater lending library. Names of actors and actresses noted on the covers of role books reflect two casts who performed the play in Philadelphia, the earlier one probably dating from around 1879 and the later one from around 1886-1887. Names of the later cast are also noted in the published copy next to the list of characters. (The collection's holdings of theater newspapers and playbills contain no reference to this play.)
